Children A Inspiration

&nbs This Easter I spent time at my brother's home. I had my i phone out torturing all as usual and  my sources of inspiration were my nephews. I had just added a new app with bright pastel filters and my oldest nephew engrossed in flying his planes in a video game was the first one I focused upon.  I began taking selfies with him in all different filters. He hardly noticed me which made the myriad of pictures I took that much easier. There was no posing or goofy faces just who he was at that moment. He is at that stage of pensive hormones of puberty flooding his body so he is beginning to change. I took pictures of our faces together. I normally dislike my picture being taken but these pictures because of my love of my nephews were at the least acceptable. My younger nephew was engaged in the the process of picture taking but with an annoyance of my constant clicking of the camera. I got a great one of him wearing a bunny mask looking very unhappy.

I had longed for nieces or nephews for a long time and now have two nephews. I have loved children for they are genuine and a honor to be with. I'm not sure if it is from my own difficult childhood or if I have a gift in relating to them but in working with them over the years they bring much joy and happiness. The best job I ever had was working with children who were in a Residential Treatment Center for Emotional Handicap boys. Never was I so challenged and fulfilled. The talent I helped to mentor in the art and writing of these children was breath taking.

I am an advocate of the protection of children and in early interventions to assist in helping them find their challenges and strengths so they may growth into whom they are meant to be. So often people give up and pigeon hole others due to fear and hopelessness. I have watched parents discover their children having learning disabilities and seen them fight for the right to obtain assessments for them to help in learning what they need to in the ways their brains can process information. Too often education relies on only one dimensional forms of education excluding multiple ways to approach teaching. In this I believe art can assist in augmenting children and parents for in the creative there is a wide array of approaches to expression. In expression there is not a right way which allows freedom and no judgement. What is made is perfect in creating from within allows the process to lead to beauty. Beauty is subjective and goes beyond  what is wrong or right.

Steam Train

I heard a train they always call something deep within me. Perhaps this leads back to my time in my childhood sleeping over my Uncle's who lived across from the train depot in Claremont Junction, NH.  I fell asleep and felt from afar in my the alpha beta stage of dreaming the train move closer the shake and vibrations rumble stronger till it was across the road from where I laid. I  relaxed into the the train whistle went deeper in my sleep and within the sound and rumbling of its passing by slept soothed as I always did awaiting the train to come on those nights.

Ancestry Series

I go off the grid. On so many levels, both good and bad. Whose to judge? I decided to utilize what has been left to me by those whom have past and those who I love today. I lay my scarfs on the earth ones that keep me warm I place humidors some still carry the film my grandfather took. My snake jacket on the floor the cat lays upon it like she climbed the rattlesnake box. The match scraps the flint and lights the candles of honor for peace. I miss so many people, not in a bad way per se, they remain like a histamatic those camera's my mother took pictures of me as a child. All of a sudden my cat began sleeping next to my paternal grandmother 's, black and white photograph, she was extraordinary beautiful as was her father that was a twin. I have a picture of them looking into a mirror at each other and their image doubles. My maternal grandfather sits stoically with his parents and 14 brothers and sisters. I inherited some dichotomy....

Have Your PictureTaken By A Blind Person

Frida Kahlo began drawing on her full body cast after a bus accident left her immobilized and bedridden. Her mother had a special easel made and brushes and paint where lent to her by father. A mirror placed above her on the ceiling lead her to paint many self portraits.
" I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." Frida Kahlo

Learning this I discerned how courage leads us to adapt in ways to cope in situations that May render us powerless. What better providence of scrying in a mirror with paint and brush the traumas that leave one in quiescence into a efficacious creative, artist such as it did for Frida.
There is a HBO Documentary. "Dark Light: The Art of Blind Photographers." A blind person becoming a photographer at first contemplation may seem impossible in terms of how we understand that seeing and light would be essential to capture a photograph, but the artists in this documentary prove this wrong.

The curator Doug McCullogh from the exhibit: International Photography of Blind Artists says succinctly in the film Dark Light, "Most people think that photographers operate through sight in their eyes, but photographers know they actually operate through their mind and these photographers since they have no sight are making purely mental constructions of photographs they use cameras, and other technologies, scanners to bring a version of that mental image into the world for us to see what they are really thinking about what is sight, what is vision, what's the difference - how do I link the visible world with the invisible world that I live in."
Frida and Artists who are blind rise out of challenges that could render them inert. No matter the struggle or that which we suffer from in making use of what is available to us and using our minds to transform we are able to fortify ourselves and others to ways that seem inconceivable. We only need to reach out and use a medium we find affinity for to simply put into action the creative and artistic for we will be surprised and so shall others in breaking barriers of what all seems impossible- is this what beauty is all about?

Old Pictures

Visiting relatives especially our wise older ones ask them to get out their photo album or box of pictures. Use your phone camera or camera and take a picture of these pictures. Collect pictures of ancestors who have passed. Keep it for your genealogy and ask questions and document for it can be a door that helps you open your history. This can be much fodder of inspiration! Post it to your Facebook page where it will bring much joy to friends and family. Draw them, study how they dressed or make a
Collage! Maybe they will appear in your dreams in a flapper dress or those bell

bottoms from the 70's! Honor the joy they took from taking the pictures by creating something from them!
